24-26th of April 2026 | 65a Charlotte Street, W1T 4PQ, Fitzrovia, London
Opening Reception: 24th of April, 6-8pm

Opening hours: 11am - 6pm

Carta Magna is pleased to announce A line has time in it, its first physical exhibition, taking place from the 24th till the 26th of April 2026 at 65a Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia. The exhibition will bring together over 40 artists in a focused presentation dedicated exclusively to works on paper.

Taking inspiration from a quote by David Hockney ‘drawing takes time, a line has time in it’, the exhibitionreflects Carta Magna’s commitment to championing the unique qualities of paper as a medium and the importance of the drawing within the arts - its immediacy, sensitivity, and enduring presence. As a surface, paper records gesture with rare intimacy and with each mark, trace, and correction remain visible, inviting close and personal engagement with the artist’s hand. A drawing is not then merely a sketch, it’s where an idea starts, in it’s the truest form.

The exhibition gathers a diverse group of emerging and established artists, offering a broad yet coherent exploration of drawing, watercolour, and mixed-media practices.

Founded as a platform dedicated exclusively to original works on paper, Carta Magna seeks to honour both the historical legacy and contemporary vitality of the medium, presenting curated works that emphasise craftsmanship, intimacy, and the materiality of such.

A line has time in it marks the beginning of Carta Magna’s programme of in-person exhibitions, creating space for audiences to encounter these works firsthand, while still making the pieces accessible online.
