Spencer approaches drawing and painting in a way that pushes at the limits of recognisable figurative form while embracing subjects such as belonging, sadness and solitude. Spencer often combines these themes within an other-worldly landscape. The paintings and drawings  presented here come from Spencers recent works on canvas and an ongoing large series of drawings began in 2022. Across this collection Spencer considers the body and its relationship within an imagined landscape. Drawings grow organically from her imagination, made in the quiet of the evening, these drawings later inform paintings. In painting recurring themes expand while bodily forms are twisted and duplicated, they often feature figures moving through uncanny scenes, whose bodies are simultaneously of and in these imaginary landscapes.
